The Power of Belief

It’s been a tough start to the season for me, but more on that later.

Two weeks ago, I wrote about reacting vs. responding and the differences between the two.

This week, I’d like to speak about one of the most crucial components of success —> BELIEF!

The Power of Belief

We never really know what life, or the game for that matter, will throw at us. Sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce your way. Sometimes you don’t score for long stretches. And sometimes you don’t get the results you expected from all of the practice and work you’ve put in on the training pitch and in the gym. You’ve been at it for months, and it seems like the progress is taking FOREVER to show itself.

Can you relate?

Well, what do YOU do when you’re faced with times like this?

Do you keep believing in yourself, working hard, and trusting the process?
Or do you make excuses, get frustrated, and quit altogether?

As people and athletes, we must realize that great things take TIME. By grasping this concept, we’ll have a much more realistic approach to achieving whatever it is we want. Did you think achieving your goals and dreams would be easy? Really? It’s said that nothing worthwhile comes easy. To that end, your dreams should be hard to achieve. Hard work, pain, and challenges are all part of the process.

I’ll give you a real-life example of my own:

Brandt Bronico, Charlotte FC

For those of you that don’t know, our team, Charlotte FC, has started off 0-3 in our MLS season. Yes, we’re a new team, but no excuses is my mentality! We’ve conceded 6 goals: two were penalties, three were deflections, and one was a “Goal-of-the-year” candidate. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life! Some of it’s definitely unlucky, but the more important part is:

1. What are we learning from these moments/games?
2. How are we going to respond as a team?

There will be stretches of play where things don’t turn out as expected, but there is so much more to the set of circumstances that can shape us into better people and players. In times like these, we can build our confidence and our teamwork, things we’ll need even more later in the season, and later in life! In addition, every one of these games will offer us opportunities to improve both as individuals and as a team. Every week presents a chance to turn things around and progress even more. When things get difficult or when you don’t see the results you want, KEEP GOING! No matter what you are trying to achieve, you will find it on the other side of those challenges and struggles.

YOU MUST BELIEVE.

In yourself! In your teammates! In your entire staff! And even in your club (or school) as a whole!

Belief is the first step to achieving any form of greatness. Don’t look at how long you ‘think’ things will take to get there. Wake up every day, show up every day, and do the work every day. Keep the end goal in mind while committing to the day-to-day process.Never forget, nothing worth having comes easy.

I believe in you. Keep Grinding!!

Optimize your mind for your Grind!”
