November 15, 2022 – We’re starting November out strong with a huge announcement! Current Gotham FC goalkeeper Michelle Betos is joining our team as our newest Soccer Resilience® ambassador! Not only is Michelle a current standout NWSL goalkeeper that’s been playing professionally for the past 12 years, but she also works as a Mental Performance Coach for youth and professional athletes, making her a fantastic fit for our ambassador team here at Soccer Resilience®.
Michelle’s from Queens, NY and attended the University of Georgia where she holds records for saves, shutouts and the winningest season in the team’s history. Michelle then went on to play professionally, spending time in the NWSL with Seattle Reign, the Portland Thorns and Racing Louisville before joining Gotham FC in early 2022. Michelle has also played overseas in Australia, Denmark, Norway, Argentina and Cyprus. She was Goalkeeper of the Year, Supporter’s Player of the Year, Best XI in 2015, won the NWSL Shield in 2016, and captained Racing Louisville in 2021. She also served as a team Player Representative, contributing to the creation of the NWSL’s first ever CBA.
“Without investment in the mental side of the game, I don’t believe any athlete, or person for that matter, will ever truly know how successful they can be. Our brains are incredible tools that can either lead us to triumphs, or contribute to our failures. Physical work is absolutely necessary, but ultimately mental health, skills, and strategies are what allow you to perform at your best. Anything I have achieved in my 10+ years playing professionally, I attribute much more to my mindset than to my physical abilities or attributes. Soccer Resilience® is comprised of accomplished humans and athletes that understand just that. It is a vital resource for anyone pursuing their best selves in any field. I’m so grateful and excited to be a part of it.”
Michelle Betos, Gotham FC Goalkeeper
“I’ve been around a lot of elite performers in my life, but Michelle tops the list. No joke! All you have to do is speak to her for five minutes and you’ll understand why her mindset’s next level – she’s lived and breathed mental fitness for the past 12 years chasing her true potential! Building a team of Ambassadors with people like Michelle elevates our game and enables us to better achieve our mission of using the beautiful game to change the world for good! I can’t wait for our community to get to know her!”
Wells Thompson, Soccer Resilience® Founder
While continuing her playing career, she also coaches other athletes in the area of mental performance and mental strength. She combines her BA in Psychology and years of playing experience to help youth, collegiate and professional players cultivate the skills they need to maximize their potential on the soccer field. Her focus is on developing mental skills and creating strategies and habits that help players foster the achievement of their goals.
Michelle’s a fiercely driven, dedicated professional athlete and brings a wealth of experience with her to Soccer Resilience®. Her years of playing have given her a great depth of knowledge and skill that she now uses to help other athletes navigate the complicated world of competitive youth sports, as well as collegiate and professional environments. Throughout her years on the pitch and working for different teams in different organizations, Michelle has learned how to develop leadership strategies from the ground up, integrate and connect with new teammates and new environments effortlessly, accept and learn from feedback, and self-reflect daily to maximize individual performance. Which is exactly what she will be helping other athletes do here at Soccer Resilience®.
By joining forces with Soccer Resilience®, Michelle’s helping us with our mission of using soccer to change the world for good. Thank you Michelle! We are so excited to have you on board!
